
23d Electronic Warfare Squadron
MISSION
The 23d Electronic Warfare Squadron (EWS) mission is to enhance the survivability and lethality of Combat Air Force (CAF) aircraft as they operate in the Electromagnetic Spectrum supporting 6 combatant commands. Comprised of electronic warfare officers, engineers, and maintenance professionals, the unit provides kinetic and non-kinetic Electromagnetic Warfare (EW) capabilities for 11 systems employed on the E-3, U-2, HH-60G/W, F-16, A-10, C-130 and F-35 aircraft valued at $15.6B. Manages $100M in facilities and a $5.1M annual budget.

PERSONNEL AND RESOURCES
The 23d EWS consists of three branches: SWA, SWB, and SWC. The SWA and SWB branches are made up of engineering and equipment specialist personnel, and provide mission data reprogramming for E-3G, HH-60G/W, U-2s, Infrared Counter Measures (IRCM), High Speed Anti-Radiation Missile (HARM), HARM Targeting System (HTS), Stand-in Attack Weapon (SiAW), and the Joint Strike Missile (JSM). The SWC flight is made up of support staff consisting of CSS, IT, Management and Budget Analysis, and Security.
HISTORY
Constituted as 23 Pursuit Squadron (Interceptor) on 22 Dec 1939. Activated on 1 Feb 1940. Redesignated as: 23 Fighter Squadron on 15 May 1942; 23 Fighter Squadron, Single Engine on 20 Aug 194. Inactivated on 31 Mar 1946. Activated on 15 Oct 1946. Redesignated as: 23 Fighter Squadron, Jet Propelled on 27 Oct 1947; 23 Fighter Squadron, Jet on 17 Jun 1948; 23 Fighter-Bomber Squadron on 20 Jan 1950; 23 Fighter-Day Squadron on 9 Aug 1954; 23 Tactical Fighter Squadron on 8 Jul 1958; 23 Fighter Squadron on 1 Oct 1991. Inactivated on 13 Aug 2010. Redesignated as 23 Electronic Warfare Squadron on 16 Jan 2025. Activated on 24 Jan 2025.
